Beat the Heat: Staying Cool, Safe and Active This Summer at Masonic Village

Summer in New Jersey can be beautiful, but by mid-July, the heat can also make everyday routines feel a little harder.

Add in the poor air quality we’ve experienced recently from wildfire smoke, spending too much time outdoors may not always be the best option, especially for seniors.

At Masonic Village at Burlington, residents don’t have to choose between staying safe and staying engaged. Even during the hottest days of summer, there are plenty of ways to keep moving, connect with friends, enjoy a good meal, and take part in community life — all in a comfortable indoor setting.

Staying Active Without Overdoing It

Hot weather does not have to mean sitting still.

This summer, residents can take part in a variety of indoor wellness programs designed to support movement, balance and flexibility. The July calendar includes Mindful Monday Chair Yoga, Tai Chi, Low Impact Chair Boxing, Strength and Balance, Dance Aerobics and Country Line Dancing.

These programs give residents a chance to stay active at a comfortable pace, with options that fit different interests and ability levels.

And when outdoor conditions are not ideal, it helps to know there are indoor spaces and activities available right on campus.

A Full Calendar, Even When It’s Hot Outside

One of the benefits of community living is that there is always something to look forward to.

Throughout July, residents are enjoying movie matinees, Pinochle, book club, Great Courses, jigsaw puzzle club, mindful coloring, crafting, coffee and conversation, and Armchair Travelers. There are also special programs like Smartphone Basics, a Smart Technology Workshop, Summer Sip & Paint, and free health screenings with Deborah Heart & Lung Center.

These are more than activities on a calendar. They are opportunities to learn something new, see familiar faces, share a laugh, and stay connected without having to plan everything on your own.

Comfort, Connection and Peace of Mind

When the weather is extremely hot, the little things matter. Having dining options available means you do not have to plan every meal, run to the grocery store, or cook when you would rather stay cool. Scheduled transportation, housekeeping and maintenance also help make daily life easier, especially during the summer months. There is also comfort in knowing support is nearby. Staff get to know residents, programs are easy to access, and there are places to gather, relax and enjoy the day without worrying about the heat. For many residents and families, that peace of mind is one of the most meaningful parts of community life.
