One of the first departments you come in contact with at the Masonic Home is the Social Services Department. This department consists of four social workers, the Chaplain and the department Administrative Assistant.
One of the duties of the Social Services Department is to process applications for residency. Anyone interested in admission must submit an application. Once an application has been approved and logged, a social worker will conduct an in place interview. This means that the social worker would go to wherever the applicant is which may be their home, a hospital or rehabilitation center. Several types of information are collected during this interview. While on the waiting list, the Social Service staff keeps the applicants and their families updated on the applicants progress on the waiting list.
The Social Services Department also performs admissions to the Masonic Home. It is at this time that the social worker tries to alleviate any apprehensions regarding moving into a long term care facility. Our social workers are here to assist new residents and their families in any way they can during this process.
Our social workers are also advocates for residents and families. It is our job to make sure all of our residents are mentally, spiritually and psychologically happy. This is often harder to pinpoint than medical problems so we work together with the other disciplines to monitor any changes in problems in behavior.
The Chaplain, who is also a member of the Social Services Department, is responsible for the spiritual well being of our residents. We offer a non-denominational service each Sunday as well as specific religious ceremonies throughout the week. Whatever your denomination, there is a service available to meet your needs. Our Chaplain also counsels with residents and families regarding the loss of a loved one. Grief counseling has helped many through that difficult time.
The Social Services Department also runs an Adopt-A-Grandparent program and the Newcomers Club.
